Boeing 777 Engine Start

There is always something about an engine starting that means a great trip is about to commence - here is a Boeing 777 engine starting. The noise is just incredible.

Virgin Atlantic currently operates twelve B747-400 in commercial service. The Virgin 747 seats 394 people. On the Virgin Atlantic 747 you will find 22 Upper Class, 32 Premium Economy and 318 Economy seats.

The Boeing 747 is a widebody commercial airliner, often referred to by the nickname "Jumbo Jet". It is among the world's most recognizable aircraft, and was the first widebody ever produced. Manufactured by Boeing's Commercial Airplane unit in the US, the original version of the 747 was two and a half times the size of the Boeing 707, one of the common large commercial aircraft of the 1960s. First flown commercially in 1970, the 747 held the passenger capacity record for 37 years.

The four-engine 747 uses a double deck configuration for part of its length. The 747 in particular was expected to become obsolete after 400 were sold but it exceeded its critics' expectations with production passing the 1,000 mark in 1993. As of June 2009, 1,416 aircraft have been built, with 107 more in various configurations remaining on order.

The 747-400, the latest version in service, is among the fastest airliners in service with a high-subsonic cruise speed of Mach 0.85 (567 mph or 913 km/h). It has an intercontinental range of 7,260 nautical miles (8,350 mi or 13,450 km). The 747-400 passenger version can accommodate 416 passengers in a typical three-class layout or 524 passengers in a typical two-class layout. The next version of the aircraft, the 747-8, is in production and scheduled to enter service in 2010.

AV8B Harrier

These model airplanes are 16 inches in length and finely handcrafted, and hand painted by our artists - to scale and museum quality.  The McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) AV-8B Harrier II is a family of second-generation vertical/short takeoff and landing or V/STOL ground-attack aircraft of the late 20th century.

 

The AV-8B Harrier II is a subsonic attack aircraft. It features a single Rolls-Royce Pegasus turbofan engine whose two intakes and four synchronized vectorable nozzles (two cold forward, two hot aft) are located very close to the turbine, where most fixed-wing aircraft have their engine nozzles at the back. The Harrier II also has smaller valved control nozzles in nose, tail and wingtips to provide control in low airspeed. It has two landing gear on the fuselage and two outrigger landing gear on the wings. The AV-8B is equipped with six wing and three fuselage hardpoints or carrying a 25 mm GAU-12 cannon other weapons and external fuel tanks.

The first AV-8B Harrier IIs produced were commonly known as the "Day Attack" variant, and are no longer in service. Most were upgraded to Night Attack Harrier or Harrier II Plus standards, with the remainder being withdrawn from service.

Gulf Air 767

This Gulf Air Boeing 767 had it's livery updated for Gulf Air's 50th Anniversary.

The Boeing 767 is a mid-size, wide-body twinjet airliner produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Passenger versions of the Boeing 767 can carry between 181 and 375 passengers, and have a range of 5,200 to 6,590 nautical miles (9,400 to 12,200 km) depending on variant and seating configuration. The Boeing 767 has been produced in three fuselage lengths.

The original 767-200 first entered into airline service in 1982, followed by the 767-300 in 1986, and the 767-400ER in 2000. Extended range versions of the original -200 and -300 models, the 767-200ER and 767-300ER, have been produced with added payload and operating distance capability. The 767-300F, a freighter version, entered service in 1995.

The first wide-body twinjet produced by Boeing, the Boeing 767 was conceived and designed in tandem with the narrow-body Boeing 757 twinjet. Both airliners share design features and flight decks, enabling pilots to obtain a common type rating to operate the two aircraft. The 767 was the first Boeing wide-body airliner to enter service with a two-person crew flight deck, eliminating the need for a flight engineer. Following in-service indications of its twinjet design reliability, the 767 received regulatory approval allowing extended transoceanic operations beginning in 1985.

The 767-300 is a lengthened Boeing 767 ordered by Japan Airlines in 1983. It first flew on January 30, 1986, and was delivered to JAL on September 25. The 767-300's direct competitor from Airbus is the A330-200. The 767-300 is expected to be replaced by the 787-8 in Boeing's lineup. As of November 2009, total orders for the 767-300/300ER/300F stand at 749 with 694 delivered. A total of 661 Boeing 767-300/-300ER/-300F aircraft were in airline service as of July 2009.

Space Shuttle Atlantis

Space Shuttle Atlantis (Orbiter Vehicle Designation: OV-104) is one of the three currently operational orbiters in the Space Shuttle fleet of NASA, the space agency of the United States. Atlantis last mission was STS-132 in May 2010.

When first flown in 1985, Atlantis became the forth operational orbiter. The final reading on Atlantis' "odometer" after its 32nd flight (STS-132) is approximately the same distance as 505 flights from the Earth to the Moon and back. Atlantis has performed both research and International Space Station (ISS) assembly missions.

Atlantis was the shuttle that deployed the planetary probes Magellan to Venus (on STS-30) and Galileo to Jupiter (STS034). Shuttle Atlantis has also delivered several vital components for the construction of the International Space Station (ISS). 

F14 Tomcat

These model airplanes are 17 inches in length and finely handcrafted, and hand painted by our artists - to scale and museum quality. The F-14 Tomcat is the US Navy's carrier-based two-seat air defence, intercept, strike and reconnaissance aircraft.

The aircraft was developed by Northrop Grumman to replace the F-4 Phantom fighter and entered service with the US Navy in 1972. In 1987, the F-14B with an upgraded engine went into production. Further upgrades in the radar, avionics and missile capability resulted in the F-14D Super Tomcat, which first flew in 1988. The US Navy operated 338 F-14 aircraft of all three variants, but the aircraft is being replaced by the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. In July 2006, the F-14 made its last carrier launch and, on September 22nd 2006 the US Navy officially retired the F-14 Tomcat.

Southwest Airlines was incorporated in Texas and commenced Customer Service on June 18, 1971, with three Boeing 737 aircraft serving three Texas cities – Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. Today, Southwest operates 537 Boeing 737 aircraft between 68 cities. Southwest topped the monthly domestic originating passenger rankings for the first time in May 2003. Yearend results for 2009 marked Southwest’s 37th consecutive year of profitability. Southwest became a major airline in 1989 when it exceeded the billion-dollar revenue mark. Southwest is the United States’ most successful low-fare, high frequency, point-to-point carrier. Southwest operates more than 3,100 flights a day coast-to-coast, making it the largest U.S. carrier based on domestic passengers carried as of September 30, 2009.

The B-2 Stealth Bomber is a low-observable, strategic, long-range, heavy bomber capable of penetrating sophisticated and dense air-defence shields. It is capable of all-altitude attack missions up to 50,000ft, with a range of more than 6,000nm unrefuelled and over 10,000nm with one refuelling, giving it the ability to fly to any point in the world within hours.

Its distinctive profile comes from the unique ‘flying wing’ construction. The leading edges of the wings are angled at 33° and the trailing edge has a double-W shape. It is manufactured at the Northrop Grumman facilities in Pico Rivera and Palmdale in California.

21 B-2 Stealth Bombers have been delivered to Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, the first in December 1993. In the first three years of service, the operational B-2s achieved a sortie reliability rate of 90%. An assessment published by the USAF showed that two B-2s armed with precision weaponry can do the job of 75 conventional aircraft.

A new transportable hangar system has been developed which allows the B-2 Model Airplanes to be deployed to forward locations overseas.The hangars are 126ft long, 250ft wide and 55ft high. The first of these hangars has been erected on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

Boeing Business Jet - BBJ

Whoa - just stumpled upon a really sweet vid of the Boeing Business Jet of BBJ Model Airplanes. Quite nicely done out in the wood grain matched with leather, and the two suites at the back (only one bed mind you!). This is the only way to fly if you are not a pilot! Love this model aircraft - BBJ all the way!

ANA Boeing 787

Boeing announced that it now expects the first delivery of a 787 to take place in the middle of the first quarter in 2011. The company had previously expected to deliver to launch customer ANA, its first ANA Boeing 787 in the fourth quarter of 2010.

The Chicago-based aerospace giant blamed the delay partially on a lack of availability of the Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engine. Rolls Royce suffered a setback earlier this month when one of the engines suffered an uncontainable failure during ground-based tests.

Boeing said that while problems with the 787′s Italian-built horizontal stabilizer and delays in instrumentation development might have delayed the first delivery into early 2011, the engine problem has pushed it back even more.

AH-1 SuperCobra

The Bell AH-1 SuperCobra is a twin-engine attack helicopter model airplanes based on the US Army's AH-1 Cobra. The twin Cobra family includes the AH-1J SeaCobra, the AH-1T Improved SeaCobra, and the AH-1 SuperCobra model airplanes. The AH-1W is the backbone of the United States Marine Corps's attack helicopter fleet, but will be replaced in service by the AH-1Z Viper upgrade in the next decade.

Cathay 747 landing

Here is a Cathay Pacific 747 Model Airplanes landing in Kai Tak. It has all the joys of the old Hong Kong airport - turn right before touch down, cross winds and quick deceleration. Hope you enjoy it! (I absolutely love Cathay Pacific!)

Qantas Wunala Dreaming Boeing 747-400

Here is a nice video of the Model Airplanes from Qantas called Wunala Dreaming, a Boeing 747-400. I believe the Wunala design was first placed on a series 400 before it's retirement, and then placed on the Boeing 747-400ER, but I could be wrong as there was a blue livery also (Nalanji Dreaming).

Delta Air Lines today unveiled plans for the complete revitalization of its fleet of Boeing 747-400 aircraft flying primarily from the Tokyo-Narita hub.

Between summer 2011 and 2012, Delta 747 will equip each of its 16 747-400s with new fully horizontal flat-bed seats in the BusinessElite cabin and new Economy class seats featuring personal, on-demand entertainment, increased personal space and added under-seat storage.

The investments are the latest in Delta’s previously announced plan to invest more than $1 billion in enhanced global products and services through 2013. When complete, Delta will offer full flat-bed seats on more than 100 trans-oceanic model airplanes, including all Boeing 777s, 767s and 747s, and will feature personal, in-seat entertainment for both BusinessElite and Economy class customers on all widebody flights.

“The multimillion dollar investment we are making to completely revitalize our trans-oceanic fleet speaks to our strong commitment to the Asian market,” Delta President Ed Bastian said in a press briefing here today. “While we have solidly positioned ourselves as the leading U.S. carrier across the Pacific in terms of flights and destinations, we are now taking steps to enhance the products and services offered across our Asian-Pacific network to position Delta as a leader in in-flight service.”

BusinessElite enhancements

The Delta 747 upgrades will bring substantial changes to both decks of the aircraft’s BusinessElite cabin. The new, custom-designed product will feature 48 horizontal flat-bed seats with direct aisle access at each seat. Window seats will face the window for improved privacy and center seats will be angled toward each other for the convenience of customers traveling together.

Delta Boeing 777-200ER

Maybe someone out there knows, but I believe Delta began only recently returning to Sydney Australia flying their Delta 777 Model Airplanes - this video shows push back and take off, as the Delta 777 heads off on the long flight over to the east coast of the USA. The 200 Model Airplanes is the smaller version of the 300, and was released by Boeing first.

Air France A380 - 800

Air France signed as a launch customer for the Airbus A380-800 "superjumbo" in 2001. Air France had ordered 12 Airbus A380-800 aircraft, with options on a further two. The first Air France A380 Model was delivered on 30 October 2009, and the Paris to New York route was used as the first route. Following delivery of the second Air France A380, Air France started using it on the Paris to Johannesburg route from the 17 February 2010. With delivery of the third A380 in April 2010, they increased the frequency of the Johannesburg route to daily. Additionally, between 12 June and 30 August 2010, the carrier scheduled flights between Paris and London  using the A380 Model Airplanes on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, and Fridays in July only, to avoid an 18-hour layover in Paris for the aircraft used on the Johannesburg route. The fourth A380 Model Airplanes has been delivered in August 2010, and has been used to begin A380 flights to Tokyo, which started on 1 September 2010. As more are delivered, Beijing  will also be added as an A380 destination. Air France was the first airline in Europe to be operating the A380 with Lufthansa following in June 2010.

Emirates A380 showers and lounge

The Emirates A380 Model Airplanes have showers and lounge in first class. Take a look at the video (everything looks better in the sales pitch!) but it is a nice idea to freshen up before landing on a long haul flight!
